Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Gateshead Podiatry Team.

Main Duties

To provide community-based podiatry care to patients deemed clinically at risk or high risk within Gateshead, assessing and reviewing patients appropriately, developing and adjusting care packages relevant to patient needs.

  • Provide podiatry care in community clinics, patients' homes, care homes, and as hospital inpatients.
  • Provide diabetic care, including identifying diabetic risk factors, undertaking annual diabetic risk classification, and categorizing patients into appropriate risk banding.
  • Manage patients presenting with chronic diseases, autoimmune conditions, and high-risk infectious diseases.
  • Undertake clinical supervision with junior staff.
  • Undertake nail surgery assessments and treatment as necessary, often with patients deemed at risk.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in podiatry or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC registration.
  • A full, valid car driver's license.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) related to Band 6 roles.
  • Evidence of mentorship or clinical educator qualifications.
Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous NHS experience at Band 5 level for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Experience of community working within the NHS, including home visits.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patients, including those with varying disease and pathology.
  • Experience of working within specialist areas, including nail surgery, biomechanics clinics, and diabetes foot ulcer clinics.
  • Previous use of EMIS electronic record systems.
  • Experience of advanced wound care and current accepted practice and dressing regimes.
  • Experience of direct supervision of students or junior staff.
  • Experience of teaching, training, or presenting to groups or individuals.
Skills

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated communication skills, including complex and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of enhanced IT skills, including databases and Microsoft Office.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of £40,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
