Unlocking the Power of X-ray Technology

Rapiscan Systems, a leading provider of detection technology, is seeking an experienced X-ray physicist/scientist to join our team. As a key member of our X-ray source development team, you will play a crucial role in designing and prototyping new and novel X-ray sources for security screening systems.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experimental physicist/scientist to contribute to the development of cutting-edge X-ray technology. You will work closely with our engineering team to design and experiment with new X-ray sources, with a focus on improving image quality and threat detection capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new X-ray sources to enhance image quality and threat detection capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the senior X-ray scientist to provide design and experimental support for technology development.
  • Contribute to the design of key tube subsystems, including electron guns, cathode technologies, anode design, and high-voltage insulators.
  • Assemble and experimentally validate new tube developments.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and refine designs based on findings.
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team to support the development of new imaging technologies.
  • Collaborate with production and manufacturing engineering teams to support the transfer of proven technologies into production.
  • Support the continual improvement of current production technologies and legacy systems.
  • Develop interactions with other science and engineering teams globally to engage on R&D projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

  • Postgraduate experience in experimental radiation physics.
  • Experience in ultra-high vacuum and high-voltage environments is required.
  • Strong experimental skills, including the ability to design and conduct complex experiments.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate effectively in a developmental and manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of X-ray dosimetry and shielding is advantageous.
  • PhD in experimental radiation physics or a related field is preferred.
