Job Title: Data Scientist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team at the University of Essex. As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing AI-enabled solutions to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze existing workflows to identify areas for improvement and develop functional requirements for new systems.
  • Embed technology and upskill company staff to ensure seamless integration and adoption.
  • Support the company's scale-up and exploitation of new technology, including participating in academic and industrial conferences to disseminate research outcomes.
  • Design, develop, and test an initial prototype of an AI engine, investigating and implementing it into existing systems and validating its effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports, evaluate, and handover the project, ensuring a smooth transition and sign-off.
  • Engage in active personal development to stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.

Requirements:

  • MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of computational and artificial intelligence, including UI-centered product design, data extraction, and interrogation.
  • Understanding of data science, machine learning algorithms, and methods, as well as cyber security techniques.
  • Strong mathematical foundation and knowledge of data visualization, data storage, processing, and handling.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, and Java, and version control using Git.
  • Understanding of front-end technologies, including JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, and knowledge of common PHP or web server exploits and their solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage expectations in a multi-partner project, and lead a complex project with competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Excellent time management skills, written and spoken English, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
