Critical Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Critical Care Specialist to join our team at Spire Healthcare. As a Critical Care Resident Medical Officer, you will play a vital role in the care of critically ill patients in our Critical Care Unit.
Key Responsibilities- Assume responsibility for the care of patients in the Critical Care Unit, working in conjunction with Consultant Intensivists and other attending consultants.
- Provide continuous vigilance, early intervention, and ongoing care to decrease ICU-related morbidity and mortality.
- Communicate proactively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Examine and evaluate patients upon admission, notify the admitting physician of assessment and recommendations, and perform subsequent evaluations and record them in the medical record.
- Coordinate with the admitting intensivists and consultants to develop a treatment plan, hospital course, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions for Critical Care patients.
- Accompany Consultant Intensivists and Matron on twice-daily ward rounds and as required.
- Diagnose and stabilize critically ill medical and surgical patients with impending or active organ failure.
- Initiate, manage, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation using various techniques and ventilators.
- Perform diagnostic-therapeutic procedures, such as arterial and central venous lines, and document the procedure in the patient chart.
- Act as the ICU team leader as needed and increase the clinical skill of ICU nurse practitioners, nurses, and ancillary personnel in caring for critically ill patients.
- Use data from monitoring devices to titrate therapy and respond to patient alarms and alerts.
- Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care as requested by the director or designee.
- In the event of cardiac arrest, initiate advanced cardiac life support until the resuscitation team arrives, then supervise and support the team and coordinate escalation and ongoing care.
- Assist ward RMOs in assessment, stabilization, escalation, and transfer of deteriorating patients on the ward, supervised by attending consultants and Consultant Intensivists.
- MB ChB or equivalent and GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Completion of Foundation training plus two years of post-Foundation training in acute specialties, including twelve months of anaesthetics and three months of critical care, with prior NHS experience in either.
- Ability to stabilize the deteriorating patient, including intubation and initiation of organ support.
- ALS or equivalent accredited life support course.
- Evidence of continuous career development.
- Evidence of good written communication, successful team worker, sensitivity to the needs of patients and colleagues.
- Punctuality, professional appearance, and attitudes consistent with GMC guidelines. Values and behaviors aligned with Spire Healthcare.
- Primary FRCA or equivalent higher qualification.
- Completion of Stage 1 Critical Care training.
- Experience of senior on-call roles in acute specialties in a UK hospital.
- Completion of an audit cycle.
- Published research.
- Other evidence of academic achievement, including additional qualifications, prizes.
- Competence in lung ultrasound, focused echocardiography.
- Attendance at meetings, courses, or membership of professional bodies.
