Senior Clinical Psychologist Paediatric Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide a specialist clinical psychology service to children and families referred to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) team, working closely with paediatric consultants and allied health professionals.

The role involves provision of psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions on a predominantly outpatient basis, as well as contribution to complex multidisciplinary decision-making and treatment planning. You will work with the Surgery & Development Stream, providing psychological input to children under the care of twelve medical specialties, including spinal surgery, orthopaedics, plastics, craniofacial, etc.

We draw on a range of therapeutic modalities, including Narrative therapy, CBT, Systemic, ACT, Compassion-focused therapy, attachment, and mentalisation-based approaches. You will have the opportunity to work in creative formulation-driven ways with young people and families, and provide individual, family, parent, and group psychological intervention, as well as work with external agencies and within GOSH MDT.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a specialist systematic and autonomous clinical psychology service within the specialist clinical area, in accordance with objectives agreed with clinical and professional managers.
  • Provide clinical supervision and line management to more junior psychologists and trainees, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to and help put into practice new or revised policies that improve the quality of the service by participating regularly on working parties and committees to develop policies and services relevant to the profession and/or medical specialties.
  • Take part in the evaluation, monitoring, and development of the multidisciplinary team's operational policies through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation, and audit, and ensuring incorporation of psychological frameworks for understanding and provision of high-quality care.
  • Understand and contribute to advancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Workplace.
  • Hold post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Be eligible for Chartered status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology, and registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Have post-doctoral training and recorded CPD experience and/or further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Have formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Have well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals.
  • Have skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Be able to identify, provide, and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
  • Be able to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional, and academic settings.
  • Have evidence of specialised psychological therapeutic skills as used in complex cases within paediatrics.
  • Have experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
  • Have experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework.
  • Have knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection.
  • Have experience of teaching or training.
  • Have experience of presenting psychology to multidisciplinary audiences at conferences or other educational settings.
  • Have experience and expertise of working within paediatrics.
  • Have experience and expertise in working with children who have life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, including experience of bereavement work.
