About Your New Role

Our Property Litigation team at Weightmans provides expert advice and representation to public and private sector landlords, tenants, and real estate developers. Our diverse client base includes local authorities, NHS Trusts, housing associations, social landlords, blue chip retailers, and owner-managed businesses.

We utilize cutting-edge case management systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to court procedures and deadlines. As a Paralegal in our Property Litigation team, you will assist case handlers in managing their own matters, particularly in housing disrepair and gas/electrical access work. You may also be involved in assisting case handlers with other property litigation matters, such as routine lease renewals, property disputes, and housing issues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Lexcel and internal procedures.
  • Assist with and oversee money laundering checks on all new matters, subject to supervision.
  • Support case handlers on housing disrepair and other cases.
  • Manage your own caseload on property litigation and housing matters in due course.
  • Interact with clients and third parties, requiring excellent communication skills.
  • Prepare and copy trial and hearing bundles.
  • Prepare and copy enclosure for papers to counsel and court (or agents).
  • Photocopy/electronic bundling for case handlers and volume for secretaries.
  • File management duties, including indexing and collating large case papers, maintaining client details, and information on physical files and case management systems.
  • Attend minor applications at court (in chambers).
  • Closing and archiving files.
  • Assist with client reporting.
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining precedent files for the team.
  • Perform other administrative and fee-earning duties as appropriate.
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans' values and relevant policies and procedures.

About You

We are seeking a Paralegal with previous experience in property litigation and a genuine interest in the field. You should have a flexible approach to work and be able to adapt to different tasks. We require:

  • Previous paralegal experience, preferably in property litigation.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration.
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Flexible approach.
