We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research programs by carrying out routine laboratory protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Follow established laboratory protocols and procedures, including PCR-based technology, nucleic acid extraction, and quality control.
- Monitor laboratory resources, reorder supplies as needed, and maintain stock levels to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
- Report experimental and equipment faults, assist in troubleshooting, and ensure rapid solutions to maintain laboratory output and data quality.
- Assist in reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated Risk Assessments to ensure maximum efficacy and efficiency.
- Take responsibility for own health and safety and that of others through the use of risk assessments and incident reporting.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a biological science.
- Excellent theoretical understanding of molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid isolation and purification, and PCR.
- Theoretical understanding of genome engineering techniques, such as CRISPR/Cas9.
- Theoretical understanding of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- Good computer skills, including experience with standard office software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work to a schedule, deliver multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet agreed deadlines and standards.
- Able to take instruction, work to guidelines and SOPs, and use initiative when necessary.
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently, with appropriate training and guidance.
- Good communication skills to facilitate accurate exchange of information.
