Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our Patient Services team at Kings College Hospital. The successful candidate will support the Deputy Dispensary Manager in the day-to-day management of the Dispensary, ensuring the safe and effective use of drugs for all patients in the Trust.

Main Duties
  • Organise and manage the dispensary-based services, including inpatients, outpatients, TTAs, controlled drugs, and Clinical Trials, to agreed performance targets.
  • Assist with the writing, implementation, and updating of policies and procedures specific to the dispensary service.
  • Review dispensary errors and take action to address poor performance, reporting progress to the Dispensary Manager.
  • Attend cross-site meetings to standardise practice across sites.
  • Participate in the dispensary checking rota and assist with good stock control.
  • Cover the duties of other senior Dispensary staff in their absence and assist with the preparation of weekly rotas.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of drugs for all patients in the Trust and participate in audits conducted within the Dispensary.
  • Deal with verbal complaints, safety issues, and investigate DATIX incidents.
  • Contribute to service developments within the department and follow departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Person Specification
  • NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent) or equivalent.
  • Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification, or currently undertaking.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
