About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Highly Specialist Speech Therapist to join our Community Learning Disability Team in Brent.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of adults with learning disabilities who present with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

As a Speech and Language Therapist for this role, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans that improve the quality of life and enable individuals to thrive in the community.

The ideal candidate will have significant post-qualification experience in working with adults with learning disabilities and a proven track record of delivering highly specialist communication and swallowing assessments and interventions.

We are looking for a Communication and Dysphagia Specialist who is able to work autonomously, on own initiative and under pressure to meet deadlines; and to make and action decisions independently within agreed time frames.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist assessment and diagnosis of communication and swallowing problems in adults with learning disabilities
  • Develop and implement care plans that improve the quality of life and enable individuals to thrive in the community
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care and treatment
  • Supervise junior staff and SLT students on placement
  • Participate in audit and research projects to improve the quality of care and treatment

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy, Registered with HCPC
  • Significant post-qualification experience in working with adults with learning disabilities
  • Experience of carrying out highly specialist communication and swallowing assessments and interventions
  • Experience and skills in working with people with complex health needs such as epilepsy, respiratory difficulties, postural needs, and dementia
