About the Role

The Health Play Specialist is a key member of the Play Team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), working within the Play Department to deliver high-quality play programs that meet the emotional, social, developmental, and creative needs of patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' needs to provide specialized play, therapeutic distraction, preparation, and post-procedural play
  • Develop and implement play programs that cater to diverse patient needs
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide support for children and young people through play preparation and play programs
  • Supervise play assistants, students, and volunteers throughout the hospital

Requirements

  • Experience of working as a Health Play Specialist with children in a hospital setting
  • Excellent knowledge of child development
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Driving license and use of vehicle or ability to confidently use public transport

Person Specification

  • Foundation Degree (FdA) in Healthcare Play Specialism or equivalent
  • Current HPSET registration (or overseas equivalent) or be in the process of re-registering
