About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled HV Design Engineer to join our Grid & Digital Solutions department as part of the M Power Projects division. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the construction of the EGL1 project, a collaborative effort between National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Transmission.

The EGL1 project aims to transmit 2GW of green energy from Scotland to England through a 190km subsea HVDC cable, powering over two million homes in the UK. As an HV Design Engineer, you will be responsible for supervising engineering activities related to medium and high voltage systems, reviewing technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise engineering activities for the project, including medium and high voltage systems
  • Review technical specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Participate in interface meetings with equipment vendors, other design disciplines, and project owner representatives
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the site construction team and site commissioning team
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in the power industry (HV/MV substations, power plants) and/or large-scale construction projects
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language
  • Experience in at least one field of medium or high voltage systems is an advantage
  • Proficient working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of at least one power systems analysis software (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSS/E) is an advantage
