As a Senior Nuclear Decommissioning Researcher at GALSON Sciences Limited, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality research projects in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management, and disposal. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing research strategies to support clients in the nuclear industry.
  • Conducting site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and contaminant transport modelling using tools such as GoldSim and COMSOL.
  • Providing expert advice on nuclear safety, radiological risk assessment, and environmental safety case development.
  • Collaborating with project teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of research projects.
  • Line managing a small team of consultants and providing training and development opportunities.

The primary office for this role is in Oakham, but there are opportunities to be based out of other GALSON Sciences Limited hub offices or work remotely.

Requirements:

  • PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering, or a BSc with proven radioactive waste management experience.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Project and contract management experience.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Nuclear industry experience, particularly in radioactive waste treatment, disposal, options assessment, nuclear safety, and related fields.
  • Coding skills, such as Python and C++.
  • Staff well-being, including line management or mentoring.
