Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Reading Specialist Tutor to join our team at Novus, a national provider of prison education. As a Reading Specialist Tutor, you will play a vital role in delivering reading programs to prisoners, helping them to improve their literacy skills and gain a new perspective on life.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver reading programs to prisoners, using a range of teaching methods and materials to engage and motivate learners.
- Work with prisoners to identify their reading needs and develop personalized learning plans.
- Collaborate with other prison staff to ensure that reading programs are integrated into the wider prison education curriculum.
- Contribute to the development of reading resources and materials, including lesson plans and teaching guides.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of reading programs, using data and feedback to inform future improvements.
Requirements
- Teaching Qualification - PGCE or Cert Ed
- At least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
- Track record of effective reading teaching, including the use of phonics
- Knowledge of the benefits of reading and a passion for helping others to experience them
- Experience of supporting emergent readers, learners with LDD needs and a willingness to work with those with ESOL requirements
