About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated specialist dietitian to join our team at The Christie NHS FT. As a Band 6 Oncology Specialist Dietitian, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nutritional care and management to patients with cancer. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their skills and experience in oncology dietetics.

The successful candidate will have recent acute experience in oncology, advanced nutritional support skills, including enteral and parenteral feeding, and excellent organisation and communication skills. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide expert advice on nutritional care and management, and contribute to the development of policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • To assess the nutritional needs of oncology patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data.
  • To develop and implement individualised nutrition plans, taking into account the patient's social and ethnic circumstances, prognosis, and treatment.
  • To communicate complex nutritional information to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, using advanced counselling and communication skills.
  • To diagnose malnutrition and/or risk of Refeeding Syndrome and recommend appropriate nutrition intervention.
  • To participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert advice on nutritional support for oncology patients.
  • To prescribe dietary regimens and manage, monitor, and reevaluate treatment plans as necessary.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Evidence of recent acute oncology and nutrition support experience, including enteral feeding.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and ability to work effectively single-handed with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and make sound judgements.
  • Knowledge of current issues relating to cancer and nutrition support.
  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or BSc degree in relevant science subject plus Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics and HCPC registration.
