Lead Data Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Data Scientist to join our team at esure Group. As a key member of our data science team, you will play a critical role in driving business improvement through data-driven insights and predictive modeling.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a high-performing data science team to deliver value-adding projects and drive business growth.
- Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, encouraging team members to share knowledge and best practices.
- Analyze company performance metrics to guide and interpret models, identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for growth.
- Shape the R&D strategy and modeling roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry trends.
- Assist in acquiring vendor data and build business cases, providing expert mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Provide expert mentorship for ongoing and new pricing activities, ensuring that data-driven insights are integrated into business decision-making.
- Design experiments and multivariate testing for AI evaluation, assessing the feasibility and operationalization of successful prototypes with Data Engineers.
- Use statistical techniques to optimize business performance, developing and maintaining algorithms to improve customer value and services.
- Deliver data science projects that drive business benefits and competitive advantage, conducting ad-hoc analysis to predict, measure, and interpret business trends.
- Mentor data scientists and promote best practices within the analytics community, collaborating with DevOps and Data Engineers to deploy ML Models.
- Set standards for R&D practices and lead meetings with partners, refactoring code into reusable libraries, APIs, and tools.
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Scientist in commercial or R&D environments, with a strong track record of delivering business value through data-driven insights.
- PhD or MSc or equivalent experience in a relevant field (Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics), with expertise in applying statistical and machine learning models to real-world problems.
- Leadership experience within a high-performing team, including mentorship and management readiness, with a proven track record of taking research from concept to business impact.
- Strong Python toolkit proficiency for Data Science, with experience in SQL and NoSQL databases, Jupyter Notebooks, and Git version control.
- Familiarity with innovative software practices (SCRUM/Agile, microservices, containerization like Docker/Kubernetes), with experience working with large, sophisticated datasets and extracting actionable insights.
- Project management experience with tight deadlines, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, and experience working with cross-functional teams.
