Job Title: Senior Design Manager

Location: London, UK

Reporting to: Regional Engineering Manager (UK/EUR), Major Builds Delivery Team

Role Overview:

The Senior Design Manager will take ownership of a multi-disciplinary technical and design management team responsible for delivering large-scale hyperscale data centre projects across the UK. This involves ensuring technical integrity and consistency across multiple projects, aligned with employer and customer-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary technical team to deliver hyperscale data centre projects.
  • Ensure technical consistency across multiple projects, aligned with employer and customer-specific requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate external consultants and contractors to meet programme and budget targets.
  • Act as the design manager for individual projects or oversee dedicated project design managers.
  • Collaborate with the Global Engineering Team to ensure compliance with the Global design standards.
  • Play a key role in delivering efficient, resilient, and cost-effective data centre infrastructures.

Team Structure:

The Senior Design Manager will be part of the Delivery Team, reporting to the VP of Real Estate, and work closely with Regional Project Managers, Design Engineers, Specialists (BMS, Security, Commissioning), Cost Managers, and Procurement Managers.

Requirements:

  • Leadership & People Management: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and communicate effectively with teams and stakeholders.
  • Design & Engineering Expertise: Strong experience managing the design and delivery of mission-critical facilities, including MEP, CSA disciplines, and construction works.
  • UK Industry Experience: Familiarity with the UK's planning and development processes, and experience with the RIBA stage gate delivery process.
  • Commissioning & Qualification: Hands-on experience in commissioning and managing change control for key systems (electrical, life safety, HVAC, fire protection, etc.).
  • Digital Tools & BIM: Deep understanding of BIM and the digital design environment, including its use in engineering and construction.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience: Previous experience in MEP data centre design and mission-critical facilities.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of CSA disciplines and design processes.
  • Language: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
