London, Greater London, United Kingdom Canonical Full time

At Canonical, we are building a team to bring the best open source networking software to market in a well-integrated and opinionated stack. This innovative stack will leverage the latest hyperscaler innovations to benefit end-users and enterprise customers.

We collaborate with leading networking silicon providers to optimize Ubuntu and related applications for their ASICs, boards, and appliances. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive open source networking solution for data center infrastructure, covering bare metal, virtualization, containerization, and serverless environments, as well as addressing IoT networking systematically.

We are seeking an exceptional software engineer passionate about networking, with a special interest in the interface of hardware ASICs for acceleration and software for innovation and control. Experience in open switch initiatives such as SoNIC and DENT, as well as upstream experience with routing, kernel networking, eBPF, DNS, firewalls, and load balancers, is highly valued.

As a Network Software Engineer at Canonical, you will have the opportunity to engage with the broader open-source community and industry-leading partners to develop future-proof networking solutions. You will contribute to a broad range of technologies and the deployment of Ubuntu, Ubuntu Core, Private Clouds, MAAS, and Kubernetes across various devices and use cases.

This role offers a unique chance to work on the most advanced operating systems and network application technologies available. You will participate upstream, delivering the Ubuntu SoNIC or DENT stacks, collaborate with public clouds and network silicon providers, design and implement the best software-defined networking experience for the data center, and write high-quality, secure, and well-documented software.

We value excellent academic results, a commitment to quality, resilience, documentation, security, and performance in your work. You will also have opportunities for professional development, including a personal learning and development budget of $2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, and more.
