Job Title: Senior Engineer – Metrology (Electrical Calibration)

Salary: £40,000+ depending on skills and experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Metrology (Electrical Calibration) to join our team. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for performing high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of electrical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-end calibrations and repairs on TMDE equipment
  • Develop and deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to team members and apprentices/graduates
  • Deputise for the ICS Electrical team leader as required, including people/resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff
  • Write and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
  • Participate in quality audits, achieving UKAS signatory status
  • Communicate with technical stakeholders on instrumentation and calibration topics

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Experience working in a precision Electrical Calibration/metrology laboratory environment
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001)
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Electrical Calibration
  • Experience in creating measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level
  • Experience in using automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview)
  • Experience in Mechanical, Dimensional, Temperature, and other engineering calibrations

About the Team:

The Calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Electrical focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making AC/DC voltage, current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, and time/frequency measurements. ICS Electrical consists of around 8+ team members, working alongside various other teams within the overall Calibration department, consisting of 50+ team members. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
