SEN Teaching Assistant Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a Client Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide support to students with Special Educational Needs in a mixed secondary school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to ensure that lessons are delivered in accordance with students' individualized learning goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, delivering lessons under the teacher's guidance, and helping students with their learning
  • Provide dedicated support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom environment
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring the well-being and engagement of students with SEN
  • Work with class teachers, other support staff, and the senior leadership team to provide the best educational, emotional, and social support
  • Assist with maintaining classroom discipline and supporting students with behavioural issues
  • Be involved in assessing students' work and providing feedback
Requirements
  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have a Level 4 or higher qualification
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH
  • Passion to working with young people to ensure barriers to learning are overcome
  • Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions
  • The ability to manage behaviour in-line with school policy
  • Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
