About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Europe Live Blogger and Breaking News Reporter to join our team at the Guardian News and Media. As a key member of our newsroom, you will be responsible for writing daily news live blogs and news stories for our European, UK, and global audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write fast and trustworthy live blogs, pulling together your own original reporting and analysis, contributions from Guardian colleagues, and updates from wires and other news services.
  • Write breaking European news stories when required.
  • Monitor and verify external sources, making effective use of other relevant material, including audio and video.
  • Liaise with editors about the focus and headline of a live blog throughout the day and, where necessary, cover breaking news.
  • Engage with readers via our community team and incorporate contributions to enrich and inform coverage.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience of working on live news.
  • A strong understanding of Guardian live blogging style, format, and tone.
  • Experience of using web tools.
  • Substantial experience of using social internet tools and technologies.
  • Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs.
  • Good understanding of media law.
  • A demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.
