Burns & McDonnell is a global leader in engineering, architecture and construction solutions. We are seeking an experienced Senior Cable Design Lead to join our UK team.

The role will involve leading Burns & McDonnell's UK engineering teams and overseeing individual and group project deliverables within the area of EHV cable systems. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performance teams, and promoting the company culture, values and mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, apply and support company, global practice and/or regional office programs and initiatives;
  • Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance;
  • Prepare and present work load and monthly financial reports to global practice or regional management and applicable project managers;
  • Recruitment, development, training and retention of staff;
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for department staff;
  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff;
  • Responsible for collaborating with business development managers, business line leads, project managers, and proposal production staff on proposals to secure work for staff;
  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence;
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies;
  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking senior Cable Design roles on project specific multi-disciplinary engineering teams;
  • Being a senior Design authority on EHV cable engineering within the wider company;
  • Supporting the Substation EHV Cable Section Manager in growing and enhancing the EHV Cable engineering capability in the UK business; and providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced Designers with the engineering team, particularly those in a cable related discipline;
  • Fully support the output of EHV Cable engineering deliverables in the UK business, working with the Substation EHV Cable Section Manager in appropriating suitable engineering personnel from across our global offices, as required;
  • Be a senior technical design role on EHV cable design project deliverables, ranging from 11kV up to 400kV (with a particular emphasis on 132kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Senior Designer on project teams, as required and when appropriate;
  • Produce detailed EHV Cable system design packages, compliant to required client and national technical standards (ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE etc);
  • Support the Senior Cable Design engineer with Cable system studies (Cable ratings, short circuit ratings, thrust calculations, cable pull force calculations etc) required to determine and optimise EHV Cable Client alignment with the specification and production of Cable system Design summaries and reports as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from accredited program and 4 years related professional experience in design and/or project management Required;
  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable;
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients;
  • Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective;
  • Must be expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
