Job Overview

South Central Ambulance Service NHS is seeking a skilled Fleet Engineer to maintain and repair ambulances and other vehicles at our workshop facility in Didcot. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the availability of ambulances to support patients.

The workshop operates 7 days a week, with shifts covering various hours on a rotation basis. We offer flexible working hours, ranging from 15 hours to full-time 37.5 hours.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ambulances and other vehicles to the highest standards.
  • Attend breakdowns and perform repairs at the scene, ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
  • Prepare new vehicles for service and prepare old vehicles for disposal.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure the health and safety of yourself and others, reporting any hazards or accidents immediately.
  • Participate in training courses to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Make decisions on vehicle repairs in the absence of the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Participate in the Duty Mechanic standby rota system.

Salary: circa. £37,755 per annum, depending on experience, plus OTE excess £45k per annum with overtime.

Holiday entitlement: 25 days per annum (based on full-time hours) plus bank holidays.

Person SpecificationQualifications
  • City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft studies parts 1, 2 & 3 or Motor Vehicle Technicians qualification or BTEC equivalents.
KnowledgeEssential Criteria
  • Relevant workshop experience involving all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.

  • Organized and methodical.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
