Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning Manager to join our team at the Welsh Government. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping policy on planning system procedures, particularly development management and other casework, as well as legislation preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to develop policy on planning system procedures.
  • Producing draft advice and decision documents relating to planning casework, including applications for Developments of National Significance.
  • Leading on specific policy areas to articulate the policy position within policy instructions to lawyers and drafters.
  • Drafting documentation necessary to accompany legislation for introduction to the Senedd, such as Explanatory Notes and Explanatory Memorandum.
  • Assisting Senior Planning Managers with preparing and implementing engagement exercises with external stakeholders.
  • Drafting advice for Ministers during policy development and casework, liaising with Private Offices.
Person Specification
  • Working towards chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or at least 2 years experience of dealing with planning or environment related casework.
  • Able to work effectively in a team and communicate complex ideas clearly.
