About the Role

The Flixton Road Medical Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Practice Nurse to join our dynamic team. As a Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our medical centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
  • Conduct cytology tests and provide results to patients.
  • Manage baby clinics, including childhood immunizations and ensuring vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Provide travel clinic services, including advice on vaccinations and administration of vaccinations.
  • Perform ECG recordings and present results to requesters.
  • Conduct asthma and peak flow readings, spirometry, and other respiratory tests.
  • Undertake chronic disease management, including monitoring progress and response to treatment.
  • Manage hypertension and provide education to patients.
  • Assist GPs with minor surgery and administer depot injections.
  • Request pathology tests, such as urine cultures and swabs.
  • Follow agreed clinical protocols and refer to senior nurses or GPs as necessary.
  • Maintain and clean equipment used by nurses and GPs.
  • Maintain GP and nurse rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
  • Order health promotion literature and maintain stock levels.
  • Recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Order stock from the hospital and maintain vaccination stock levels.
  • Participate in administrative systems and maintain accurate records.
  • Advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within assigned tasks.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings.
  • Undertake home visits as necessary.
  • Perform other delegated duties as required.

Person Specification

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Driving license.
  • Diploma or degree-level training in diabetes, CHD, asthma, or COPD (desirable).
  • Experience working within a nursing team and in a GP practice (desirable).
  • Long-term condition management experience (desirable).
  • Vaccination and immunization experience (desirable).
  • Experience using EMIS Web (desirable).
  • Understanding of QoF (desirable).
