About the Role

The Shakespeare Hospice is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counsellor Volunteer to join our Adult Counselling and Bereavement Support Service. As a Counsellor Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and guidance to patients and their families, helping them navigate complex end-of-life and bereavement issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support patients and their families with complex end-of-life and bereavement issues, adhering to NICE Guidance, 2004.
  • Work with a range of mild to moderate mental health problems and psychological distress, including depression, anxiety, stress, and adjustment to life events.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, working towards a planned and negotiated ending with clients.
  • Participate in regular supervision, adhering to BACP guidelines, and maintain appropriate professional records.
  • Attend regular team meetings and events, and participate in audit, evidence-based practice, and practice-based evidence initiatives.
Requirements
  • Either qualified as a counsellor or working towards qualification, with a minimum of 50 hours experience.
  • Able to commit to a minimum of a year volunteering with the hospice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
