Lead Mechanical Engineer

Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) arrangement. This 20-year partnership aims to deliver ~£7bn of major projects, driving innovation and change in engineering, safety, and delivery solutions.
We are seeking a high-calibre Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead a team of engineers in delivering projects to time, cost, and quality. As a key member of the PPP Team, you will contribute to the development of optimised, balanced, and practical design solutions, balancing safety, environmental performance, operational effectiveness, and constructability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of discipline engineers in the definition, implementation, and delivery of specified functional work, ensuring safety, functional, legislative, and business requirements are met.
- Develop and implement an assurance strategy, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and required design reviews, assistance reviews, and other assurance activities.
- Manage risk and assurance activities, including functional engineering or design capability reviews, especially for novel techniques or solutions carrying significant financial, technical, design, or programme risk.
- Collaborate in the selection and development of design solutions, balancing safety, environmental performance, operational effectiveness, and constructability.
- Ensure SQEP competent resources are used to prepare, check, and approve design work packages.
Requirements:
- Qualified Chartered Engineer
- At least 8 years of experience in relevant project design work
- Experience of Front End Engineering Design, Options generation, and down selection
- Experience in leading a team
