Specialist Pharmacy Technician - Dispensary Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Pharmacy Technician to work as a Dispensary Manager for the Dispensary Services to join our friendly and welcoming Pharmacy Team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the technical and operational dispensary functions and coordinating the staff to ensure all different types of prescriptions are dispensed timely for patients.

The post holder will have oversight over the dispensary stock management of the controlled drugs for the Pharmacy Department, including the maintenance of the automated cabinet.

There will be an involvement with the patient experience group and working with the Pharmacy Quality Team, the Error Monitoring Team, and networking with other hospital pharmacies around the local area for best practice and benchmarking.

This post will have involvement with projects for quality improvements and implementing actions for compliance to the GPHC standards where appropriate.

As a member of the Pharmacy team, you will be expected to play a vital role in providing pharmacy technical advice and support.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Responsible for the management of all aspects of the medicines management services linked to dispensary services, including the day-to-day stock control management of the Controlled Drugs for Pharmacy department.
  • Investigate stock level discrepancies in the dispensary in line with current procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage pharmacy clinical systems in pharmacy, including our automation systems, to support the supply of medicines and the dispensing process.
Person Specification
  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a practising Pharmacy Technician.
Experience
  • Significant experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy environment.
  • Experience of dispensary technical operational requirements.
  • Experience of directing and managing teams.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Compliance to GPHC standards and implementation, including controlled drugs management.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy services delivered to patients and wards.
  • Knowledge of prescription turnaround times and impact on workflow.
