Austin Fraser is currently recruiting for a skilled maintenance engineer to join their manufacturing facility operating within the plastics and packaging industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing mechanical and electrical maintenance repairs and improvements of machinery to ensure smooth production process operation.

The working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with call-out and out-of-hours coverage required on a rota basis. Additional compensation is provided for weekends and emergency breakdowns. Overtime is available and paid at 1.5x the basic hourly rate when necessary.

About the Role:
  • Perform reactive and preventative maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and production delays.
  • Monitor external contractors ensuring adherence to safety regulations and work standards.
  • Keep a well-organized workshop maintaining cleanliness standards to minimize contamination risk.
  • Carry out necessary quality checks in line with BRC requirements.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  1. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Electrical qualifications preferably 18th Edition IEE Regulations or equivalent.
  3. Experience with 1, 2, and 3-phase electrical systems PLC systems and general electrical controls.
  4. Strong background in mechanical maintenance including knowledge of hydraulics pneumatics gearboxes bearings conveyors and welding.
  5. Practical experience with heavy plant machinery and factory equipment.
  6. Ability to work independently or as part of a team managing own workload and external contractor coordination.

The estimated salary for this role is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum depending on experience.
