About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Signalling Design Engineer to join our team in Safety Solutions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering safe and efficient signalling design solutions that meet industry standards and client requirements.

Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing signalling designs that ensure the safety of passengers and staff. You will work closely with our CRE (Chief Resident Engineer) and other team members to deliver high-quality design outputs that meet project programmes, budgets, and technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis: Assist key project members with hazard identification workshops, perform risk assessments using industry standards and methodologies, and ensure documentation and prioritization of identified risks.
  2. Subcontract Specifications: Assist the Signalling Design CRE with drafting and gathering information for subcontractor specifications, by assisting to develop scopes, determining deliverables, measuring performance metrics, etc.
  3. Tendering and Estimates: Assist the Signalling Design Management team with tendering documentation, including scope of works and cost estimates based on project requirements and industry benchmarks for all new opportunities.
  4. Technical Constraints: Identify technical constraints that may affect the design, i.e., existing infrastructure, safety systems, or budget limitations.
  5. Design Process: Develop initial design concepts that meet client technical requirements, produce plans, logs, reports, calculations, and specifications; create detailed design documentation, including locations/REBs/RR's, schematics, specifications, reports, logs, and calculations.

In addition to your technical skills, you will also be responsible for collaborating with the CRE or Responsible Engineer for guidance and feedback throughout the design process and ensuring all design documents are well-organized and easily accessible.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in signalling design or a related field within the railway industry.
  • Proven experience in delivering signalling principles design from PACE Phase 1 ES2 through to PACE Phase 4 ES8 (previously GRIP1 to GRIP8).
  • Strong understanding of railway signalling principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation (CAD), Alstom PLANS software, Signal Spacing calculations model (SSPaM), TPWS Placer, Headway Charts, Signal Sighting Database (SSiFT), Cab footage AIVR.
