About the Role

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Science Strategist to join our team. As a key member of our Environment team, you will play a crucial role in identifying and developing our Environment strategy, engaging stakeholders, and building our scientific capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct strategic analytical research to support the development of our Environment strategy and/or programmes, focusing on specific topics, sectors, or industries to understand challenges and identify measurement needs.
  • Engage with stakeholders to develop NPL points-of-view and positions, involving literature search and external interactions/conferences in new areas to identify future research or business development potential.
  • Lead the delivery of strategic research projects, scoping, desktop research, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, synthesising and coming up with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Develop relationships and raise the profile of NPL in the Environment arena through content-driven engagement with external stakeholders, liaising with marketing and providing knowledge and content for marketing outputs.
  • Support Strategic Business Development managers for knowledge and analytical content needs, particularly in new funding streams and opportunities to NPL.
  • Support the Head of Challenge in the development and refinement of the challenge strategy.
Key Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Delivery-focused with the ability to efficiently manage multiple complex projects while focusing on activities that deliver tangible value.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to see the big picture and foresee opportunities.
  • Analytical skills and critical thinking with the ability to learn, identify, and analyse large amounts of new information, synthesise, distil, structure, find trends, and insights.
  • Commercial/business knowledge and mindset with the ability to lead a project, work with stakeholders with different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to produce reports, papers, and other project-related written delivery work.
