Join Our Team as a Trainee Patent Attorney

Marks & Clerk LLP is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our team as a trainee patent attorney. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to work across a range of technology areas, including electronics and engineering.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with a background in physics, software, or electrical engineering. If you have a mechanical engineering degree, you will need to have significant study or experience in electronics. This will be assessed throughout the application process.

As a trainee patent attorney, you will be given full support to achieve qualification as a chartered UK and European patent attorney. Our comprehensive in-house training academy combines tutorials, lectures, mentoring, and supervision from partners and other qualified attorneys.

You will also gain a range of commercial skills, such as business development and client care, as part of our ongoing personal development programme.

We are looking for someone with a scientific background in physics, software, or electrical engineering. You will need to have gained (or be expecting to achieve) at least a 2:1 degree in your subject. We also welcome applications from those completing a doctorate, undertaking postgraduate research, or working in industry.

Key requirements include a natural curiosity to find out how things work, excellent communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail. You will need to demonstrate technical excellence, an interest in the commercial world, and an appreciation of the importance of intellectual property to businesses.

Please note that applications close on a specified date, and first-round interviews will take place via video call. We are aiming to run second-round interviews in person, in early January.

Requirements
