About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Technical Operator to join our team at the BBC South East studios in Tunbridge Wells. As a key member of our Operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of our flagship regional news programme, South East Today, as well as other bulletins and output.

Main Responsibilities
  • Working as a Principle Technical Operator, you will be responsible for leading a multi-skilled team under tight time pressures to deliver high-quality live television.
  • You will also work on other shifts, including acting as Technical Manager, Sound Mixer, Editing, or working on our multi-media hub.
  • Multi-skilling is critical to the smooth running of the Operations department, and you may have other skills that you bring to the team.
Requirements
  • Experience of directing live television in a news environment and leading a multi-skilled team under tight time pressures.
  • Good communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work with others or alone.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and lead the team during live transmission to realise our editorial ambition.
  • Experience of live news transmission systems is an advantage, although you will be trained on our system as part of the placement.
  • Aptitude and willingness to develop your own skills and learn new ones.
  • Understanding of BBC Health & Safety policies.
