Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lawyer to join our Housing Legal Team at Manchester City Council. As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in providing legal advice and representation in a variety of housing-related matters.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in housing law and will be responsible for:

  • Providing legal advice and representation in injunction applications, possession claims, closure order applications, and other housing-related matters.
  • Working closely with the Housing Team to develop and implement effective legal strategies to support the Council's housing stock management and homelessness decisions.
  • Collaborating with other teams and stakeholders to ensure that the Council's legal obligations are met and that the rights of tenants and other stakeholders are protected.
  • Staying up-to-date with changes in housing law and regulations, and providing guidance and training to colleagues as needed.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in housing law and a qualified solicitor, barrister, Chartered Lawyer or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives holding a current practising certificate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
