The Stephen James Partnership is seeking a highly skilled Senior Pensions Lawyer to join our team on a fixed-term contract. As a key member of our Group Corporate Treasury legal team, you will provide expert legal advice on Group pensions matters and related transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer strategic and technical legal advice on Group pensions to senior management and executives.
- Negotiate with Trustee advisers and external counsel on corporate transactions and restructurings.
- Assist with the Group's governance processes concerning pension liabilities.
- Draft and review pension documents such as scheme rules, funding documents, settlement agreements, and court documents.
- Handle correspondence with regulators like the Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Ombudsman, and the PRA.
- Review media and company-related statements.
- Support corporate programmes, projects, and pension-related disputes or litigation in partnership with the Group's litigation experts.
Requirements:
- Current UK legal practicing certificate.
- 8+ years of PQE.
- Strong experience in providing commercially-focused advice on complex transactions and occupational pensions law, strategy, and governance.
- Deep understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape for occupational pension schemes.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, and adapt with resilience.
- Strong relationship-building skills, collaboration across teams, and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and emotional intelligence skills, with the confidence to speak up and challenge when necessary.
