About the Role

The Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the project design is completed on budget and on time. This will involve coordinating the design team activities, monitoring progress, and managing any slippages. The successful candidate will also be responsible for defining and managing design interfaces, promoting value engineering opportunities, and working with the procurement team to ensure compliance with financial parameters.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Tendering design packages from project briefs received by the Client - understand scope and negotiate offers upstream and downstream.
  2. Agree Design Responsibility Matrix with all parties with design input in the project to ensure no gaps or overlaps.
  3. Co-ordinate the design team activities to ensure that the project design is completed on budget in line with the cost plan and on time in line with the agreed construction programme.
  4. Monitor and track progress of the design, manage any slippages, and be the interface with the management team.
  5. Actively define and manage design interfaces.
  6. Lead the review of the design with the interested parties.
  7. Promote, explore, and materialise value engineering opportunities throughout the design process.
  8. Work with the procurement team to ensure compliance with financial parameters and assist in defining scopes for subcontracting the different works packages.
  9. Be responsible for ensuring the design complies with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  10. Work with the Health and Safety, Quality, and Environmental teams to support audits to consultants.
  11. Liaise with client representatives on the design development as required.
  12. Review and agree Consultants monthly Applications for payment.
  13. Assist the Design Manager in managing the design team, giving advice on appropriate resourcing levels, effective performance management, employee development, and motivation.
  14. Promote company values in all dealings with other employees, clients, subcontractors, and other external contacts.
Requirements
  1. Experience in design coordination roles.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Ability to use time productively, maximise efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.
  4. Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed and determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  5. Proactive approach to incorporate new technologies on site at different stages of the project.
  6. Experience of working in a cost-conscious environment.
  7. People management skills.
  8. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact at a variety of levels.
  9. Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  10. Experience of working in the construction industry.
