Job Title: Head of Modern Foreign Languages

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to join our team as Head of Modern Foreign Languages. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established department and inspire the next generation of linguists.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in both Spanish and French. They will also be responsible for teaching both languages across all year groups, preparing students for Common Entrance (13+) and Scholarship exams, and fostering a love of language learning and cultural awareness through engaging and creative lessons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in both Spanish and French
  • Teach Spanish and French across Years 3-8, following the National Curriculum and adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Prepare students for Common Entrance (13+) and Scholarship exams, ensuring they achieve excellent outcomes
  • Foster a love of language learning and develop cultural awareness through engaging and creative lessons
  • Develop and maintain schemes of work, assessment strategies, and extracurricular activities related to languages
  • Collaborate with other staff and departments to create a holistic and enriched learning environment
  • Manage and support the professional development of language teaching staff, ensuring ongoing improvements within the department
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Spanish and French
  • Proven experience teaching Spanish and French to primary or prep school-aged pupils, including preparation for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a small team of language teachers
  • A passion for fostering a positive and engaging environment for learning languages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Commitment to the pastoral care and well-being of students
