Job Overview

The Pharmacy Advisor will work alongside pharmacists and technical staff in the pharmacy section 10 production unit at the hospital site. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation and dispensing of aseptically produced products in isolators, as well as assisting with the daily monitoring and cleaning of isolators, and the monitoring of the clean room.

The Pharmacy Advisor must be flexible to working at other hospital trust sites when required to fulfill the service needs of cross-site working.

Main Responsibilities
  • Policy and Process
    • To maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to procedures and protocols.
    • To assist with the monitoring of the environment in Aseptic services, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice.
    • To participate in the monitoring and cleaning rota of the isolators, following standard operating procedures.
    • To comply with departmental Good manufacturing requirements of dress and hygiene relating to work in aseptic services.
    • To prepare documentation and labels using the pharmacy computer system.
    • To undertake transfer disinfection into the aseptic unit and isolators, following procedures.
    • To check volumes of other staff in the aseptic unit, after an appropriate period of training and competence assessment.
  • Operational Performance
    • To assist and partake in the aseptic preparation of cytotoxic drugs, CIVAS products and PN to the patients of the hospital, according to the Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, Guidance on Aseptic dispensing for NHS Patients, Health and Safety at Work Act and departmental procedures.

    • The Pharmacy Advisor has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital.

  • Person Specification
    • GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent (4/C or above)
    • NVQ Pharmacy Level 2 plus accredited underpinning knowledge or equivalent
  • Knowledge & Experience
    • Experience of dispensing medication

    • Knowledge of procedures for pharmacy services
    • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
  • Skills
    • Good interpersonal, communication, written and oral skills
