Community Protection Specialist - Environmental Enforcement

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Community Protection Specialist to join our team in Fife Council.

This role will involve investigating environmental protection matters and antisocial behaviour, with a focus on promoting a clean, safe, and secure environment for local communities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, including relevant Acts, Regulations, Conditions, and Approved Codes of Practice.

Key responsibilities will include conducting patrols, investigations, and gathering evidence, as well as providing advice and taking legal action when necessary. The role will also involve liaising with other teams, services, and enforcement agencies, communicating effectively with customers and colleagues, and working collaboratively as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in dealing with the public, conflict resolution skills, and excellent communication and persuasive skills. They will be confident in using IT applications and have a positive work ethic and attitude.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Educated to SVQ2, National Certificate, or Higher level, or equivalent
  • Good standard of written English
  • Ability to undertake weekend working (minimum 2 Saturdays per month)
  • Applicants should hold a full current driving licence
  • Experience in dealing with the public
  • Conflict Avoidance/resolution skills
  • Very good communication and persuasive skills with ability to remain tactful, firm, fair in potentially confrontational situation
  • Requires to be assertive and tactful when dealing with members of the public and organisations when undertaking enforcement and educational duties
  • Presentation Skills
  • Ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences
  • Confident user of IT applications, showing ability to use packages effectively

$30,000 - $35,000 per annum
