The NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) Strategic Development Director is the senior officer responsible for developing, delivering, and implementing RRDN strategic plans to build research capacity and capability at organisational and regional levels, with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the life sciences industry across both commercial contract and collaborative research.

About the NIHR Research Delivery Network

The NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) forms part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research. We are funded by the Department of Health and Social Care to support the country's world-class research system in delivering high-quality research that enables optimal care for our population.

This role is with the NIHR South West Central Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and coordinate teams supporting strategic development of research delivery capability and capacity, portfolio oversight, and RRDN support functions.
  • Create and lead a 3-year RRDN Strategic Implementation Plan aligned with RDN strategic objectives.
  • Experience of working at a senior level within the health and care research sector, healthcare services, or academic environments.
  • Experience of contributing to national policy or strategy development and translating those into regional plans.
  • SIGNIFICANT experience of managing large budgets with solid knowledge of financial process requirements.
  • Direct experience of business planning and robust financial management at an appropriate scale.
Requirements:
  • Highly developed leadership, strategic thinking, and planning skills, with ability to demonstrate these in highly political environments.
  • Demonstrable ability to use autonomy to undertake actions based on own interpretation of policy and guidance.
  • Ability to communicate complex, sensitive, or contentious information orally and in writing to various audiences.
  • Ability to plan, manage, adjust, and deliver complex projects involving multiple agencies and individuals.
  • Ability to travel to different locations across the region and nationally to attend meetings and conferences, representing the RDN.
