About the Role

We are seeking a skilled developer to join our digital preservation team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our digital records infrastructure, ensuring the long-term preservation of vital public records.

Our digital preservation system securely stores our rapidly increasing digital collection, operating at petabyte-scale. You will work on new initiatives, some of which use AWS, as well as developing live services. You will have the opportunity to contribute to our programme of technical research in digital archiving and to talk about your work at conferences and meetings.

You will be an expert in one or more programming languages, with a good level of knowledge of others. Familiarity with Linux would be an advantage. You will influence the future design of the system and will be responsible for helping to set technical direction, mentoring staff, undertaking code review, and writing high-quality, robust code.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain our digital records infrastructure
  2. Work on new initiatives, including those using AWS
  3. Develop live services
  4. Contribute to our programme of technical research in digital archiving
  5. Talk about your work at conferences and meetings
Requirements

You should be passionate about technology and information management, and your own skills development. You will liaise with Heads of Department, technical staff throughout the Digital Directorate, and colleagues across The National Archives and beyond.
