The Associate Manager, Specimen Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Specimen Management team, ensuring that departmental objectives are met in a quality manner. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of individuals and associated activities, operations, and performance to ensure daily objectives are met.
  • Assist in the planning for department growth and drive new department initiatives.
  • Contribute to identifying cost savings opportunities and process improvements.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and development of staff.
  • Facilitate team meetings to ensure alignment of the team.
  • Set day-to-day operational objectives for the team, focusing on mentoring, coaching, and workflow coordination.
  • Monitor and analyze operational metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Determine resourcing needs to ensure effective delivery.
  • Responsible for department health and safety and good housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for training of new employees and ongoing development training.
  • Support the build of justification for new department equipment purchases and resources.
  • Foster a unified work environment leading to increased employee engagement.
  • Assist in capacity planning and budget planning.
  • Ensure team adherence to appropriate quality control systems and procedures.
  • Ensure training of new personnel according to the time guidelines in the training plans.
  • Ensure maintenance of staff position descriptions, CVs, and training records.
  • Engage with global counterparts to drive consistency of process.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external clients for problem resolution and inquiries.
  • Assist in the preparation for audits.
  • Oversee standard internal audit responses for timeliness and adequacy.
  • Partner with management to define trends in incident reporting and uncover means to reduce risk.
  • Supervise staff in accordance with organization's policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Other equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4 years experience in Specimen Management or related clinical lab services function
  • Demonstrates natural ability to guide and mentor others, as well as navigating challenges in operational and people matters
  • Strong understanding of specific area of responsibility
  • Strong understanding of operations and methods
  • Knowledge of study set up and cross functional/system dependencies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively delegate work
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects, and direct team members
