Portering Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Portering Shift Manager to join our team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Job Summary:The Portering Shift Manager will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Portering services, liaising with the Porter Manager and other Managers as necessary. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work on their own initiative, and have previous management/supervisory experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure the Portering services are run smoothly and efficiently.
- Liaise with the Porter Manager and other Managers as necessary.
- Communicate verbally with Portering Manager and staff by phone, radio, and through written procedures.
- Ensure prompt, efficient, and courteous fulfilment of commitments.
- Communicate with a range of clinical and non-clinical staff, patients, and visitors.
- Deal with ad hoc requests from Managers for all the above services.
- Carry out staff appraisals, training, team briefs, and Return to Work interviews.
- Prepare rotas and allocate staff in liaison with the Portering Manager.
- Check and verify time sheets and maintain records of sickness, leave, financial payments, and completes timesheets for pay.
- Authorise overtime for appropriate staff in liaison with their Line Managers requirements.
- Ensure supervision and discipline of Portering services staff is maintained.
- Ensure any necessary practical training of Portering services staff is undertaken/arranged.
- Ensure the Trust abides by its obligations in relation to Health and Safety and Fire Regulations.
- Ensure that the switchboard is manned in accordance with the guidance given by the switchboard Supervisor.
- Organise the work of the out-of-hours non-clinical services as required.
- Carry a bleep and radio and arrange for all urgent requests and emergencies to be dealt with quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
- Be on call as necessary to ensure the effective running of non-clinical services.
- Undertake out-of-hours mortuary viewings and bodies' releases.
The successful candidate will have:
- GCSE English and Maths.
- Experience in dealing with the public/customer care.
- Capable of working on own initiative.
- Previous management/supervisory experience.
- Use of Hospital/Portering Equipment.
The successful candidate will also have:
- Experience within a Healthcare setting.
- Managed in a healthcare environment previously.
- Experience of Infection Control.
The successful candidate will have:
- Understanding of the need for confidentiality awareness at all times.
- Basic understanding of people.
The successful candidate will have:
- People-management.
- Delegation.
- Forward planning.
- Prepare rotas and allocating staff.
- Work within budgetary confinements.
