PMLD Support Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Support Assistant to join our team at a welcoming and supportive school in Croydon. This role is specifically designed to work with students aged 16-25 with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), starting immediately and initially running until the end of the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to students with PMLD, ensuring their individual needs are met
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and feeding as required, maintaining dignity and respect
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and work closely with teachers and therapists to enhance students' learning experience
  • Use a range of sensory and communication strategies to engage students in learning
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
  • Support with classroom management and general school duties
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young adults with PMLD or complex SEND
  • A caring, patient, and enthusiastic attitude
  • The ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Manual Handling, Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Level 2 Adult Safeguarding)
  • Relevant Health & Social Care experience is desirable
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Confident and willing to support with personal care
  • Willing to support with hydrotherapy and rebound therapy
