Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ophthalmologist to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Ophthalmologist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality patient care, conducting clinical research, and contributing to the development of our ophthalmology services. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to take on new challenges and advance their career in a dynamic and supportive environment.About the Role: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert ophthalmological care to patients across all sites, including elective and emergency services. You will work closely with other consultants to ensure seamless 24-hour, 7-day coverage for the unit and participate in the supervision of junior staff. Additionally, you will contribute to the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of our department's business plan, focusing on fostering and developing projects that drive post-qualification professional education and training.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this role, applicants must hold a registerable medical qualification (e.g., MBBS, MD) and have completed advanced subspecialty training in Glaucoma. They should also possess full registration with the GMC, name on the GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register, and experience in day-to-day organisation of Ophthalmology services in a busy Teaching Hospital. Familiarity with information technology, computer skills, and knowledge of the UK National Health Service structure are essential. Leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams and thorough understanding of principles of medical audit are also required. A commitment to teaching and training, as well as experience in clinical research, are desirable.
