This is a unique opportunity to contribute your skills and expertise to the Charity Grants Committee of the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF).

The MCF is a leading grant-making charity, funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families.

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our Committee, helping to shape the overall strategic direction of our charity grants programme and make decisions regarding applications.

Key areas of focus include children and young people, and later life programmes, with a particular emphasis on early years, domestic abuse, special educational needs and disabilities, and dementia care.

As a Committee member, you will be responsible for:

Overseeing all Charity Grants activities and reporting back to the Board.

Developing and proposing the strategy for achieving our charitable objectives.

Policy development to support the achievement of our strategy.

Making recommendations on funding areas, charity eligibility, assessment criteria, and grant levels.

Assessing the impact of our charitable activities and using evidence to inform strategic decisions.

Engaging with charity partners and stakeholders to develop the scope and provision of our grants.

Providing support and meaningful engagement with Provinces and Metropolitan Grand Lodge on grant making.

Monitoring performance, service standards, and delivery against our charitable objectives.

Oversight of the decision-making process and delegated authority.

Ratifying small grants and hospice grants.

Considering and approving large grant and partnership applications.

Making recommendations to the Board on applications outside of planned activity.

Monitoring all planned expenditure and reporting unplanned costs to the Board.

Providing an audit function to review grants decisions.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Experience of charitable grant-making and/or charitable service delivery.

Knowledge or experience of our key focus areas, including early years, domestic abuse, and dementia care.

A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

This is a rewarding role that will allow you to make a significant contribution to the MCF and our charitable objectives.

Time Commitment

  • Committee members are required to attend six meetings per year, held either at our offices or remotely.
  • Some additional time will be required to study papers and carry out occasional visits to charity applicants.

Appointment and Tenure

Committee members are appointed for an initial period of three years and may be renewed subject to satisfactory appraisal.
