About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Plant Team at our tunnel drive site. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining 95% plus machine availability, ensuring high levels of production and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ongoing operation and maintenance of current installations, including TBM machines.
- Management of spare parts, working closely with store personnel to ensure readiness and sufficient stocks.
- Central focal point for plant-related issues, including breakdowns, noise management, shutdown management, and required documentation.
- Interface management with production/tunnelling teams.
- Support for directly employed Fitters and Electricians, ensuring their needs are met regarding plant, equipment, and materials.
- Enforcement of maintenance schedules and monitoring of compliance.
- Review of maintenance technician work to ensure adherence to manufacturer's instructions and best practice.
- Provision of up-to-date information for maintenance teams, including drawings, O&M manuals, dismantling methodologies, specialist tools, and equipment.
- Assistance to Senior Engineers with other tasks and activities as required.
- Maintenance check sheet creation, schedule planning, machine downtime management, and spare part management.
- Collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, and Construction Foremen to ensure timely maintenance, scheduled downtime, and sufficient personnel for works.
- Proposal and implementation of modifications and improvements to plant, enhancing safety and increasing machine availability.
- Plant inspection and monitoring to ensure fit-for-purpose, with statutory inspections and certificates ensured.
Salary: Estimated £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Required Qualifications:
- A mechanical background with experience in plant maintenance, welding, and fabrication, particularly in the tunnelling and underground sectors.
- Excellent knowledge of materials, specifications, and industry working practices.
- A minimum bachelor's degree (grade 2:1 minimum) in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- A proven track record of production management, with strong technical ability to apply knowledge and experience to solving complex problems.
- Experience related to areas such as bulk material handling, hydraulic systems, pressurized pipework, instrumentation, control, electronics, electrical systems, static and fluid design, and testing and commissioning, will be beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate technical matters effectively with employees, managers, and senior management.
- Ability to evaluate alternatives and make decisions, even when all information is not available, and gain appropriate approvals for works.
- Capacity to manage change, identify problems, their causes, and practical solutions.
- Ensuring equipment and machinery availability and overall utilization targets are met.
- Engagement with equipment and parts suppliers to contribute to effective production equipment operation and problem resolution.
- Compliance with project policies, procedures, and standards regarding finance, health and safety, quality, and human resources.
