Dame's Assistant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dame's Assistant to provide exceptional support to the Dame in the pastoral care of students. This role involves working collaboratively with the Dame to ensure the well-being and safety of students, as well as contributing to the day-to-day running of the House.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop positive relationships with new pupils, inducting them into the ways of the House and setting expectations for cleanliness, laundry, and respect for their environment.
- Supervise laundry, send students' clothing and sheets to laundry, and check the return of these items, reporting any missing sheets or pillowcases.
- Assist the Dame with general health and wellbeing of pupils, liaising with School medical staff as necessary.
- Escort pupils to routine appointments and respond to medical emergencies.
- Liaise with parents on medical, domestic, or logistic matters in the absence of the Dame.
- Support the Dame and House Master at functions and events, including setup, serving, and washing up.
- Undertake administration tasks as directed by the Dame, liaising with central school teams as needed.
- Ensure adherence to child protection procedures and communicate relevant information to the Dame.
- Cover for the Dame during time off and administer prescribed medication to pupils, maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain cleanliness standards in allocated rooms and areas, adhering to expectations set by the Central Cleaning team.
Requirements
- Flexible approach to work and a 'can do' attitude.
- High standard of verbal and written communication skills, with ability to adapt style for different audiences.
- Ability to nurture good working relationships with other departments.
- Confidence in own abilities and willingness to take direction from the Dame, House Master, and Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Previous experience in administration and good computer skills, particularly in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Understanding of when to resolve problems independently and when to seek help.
- Flexibility to work within a dual reporting line structure.
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous experience in a pastoral role for children or young adults.
- Awareness of the Children's Act and Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- First Aid or relevant medical training.
- Clean and valid driving license.
