Twycross Zoo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Curator - Primates to join our team. As a key member of our animal management team, you will be responsible for the care and well-being of our primate species, including great apes.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide exceptional leadership and management to a large team, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve animal care and welfare, ensuring compliance with best practice and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to provide high-quality animal health care, including preventative medicine programs and reactive care.
- Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure the zoo's facilities and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.
- Represent the zoo on professional and scientific bodies, promoting our reputation as a leading centre for animal management, research, and conservation.
- BSc (or equivalent) in an animal or conservation-related subject, with a strong background in primate care and management.
- Extensive experience in team management, with a proven track record of leading and inspiring teams to achieve high standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Strong knowledge of breeding program management, species planning, and conservation biology.
- IT competence in Microsoft Office and ZIMS, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies.
- A competitive salary of £38,000.
- A permanent contract with a 37.5-hour working week.
