Ecological Consultant Job Description

Are you passionate about the environment and conservation? Do you have a strong background in ecology and a desire to make a difference? We are seeking an experienced Ecological Consultant to join our team at CleanTech Talent.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Ecological Consultant to work on a variety of projects, including ecological surveys, impact assessments, and conservation planning. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies, as well as experience in conducting and leading ecological surveys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting ecological surveys, including protected species surveys and habitat assessments
  • Preparing comprehensive ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
  • Advising clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies
  • Collaborating with landscape planning and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions
  • Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and planning applications
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery

Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in ecological consultancy or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies
  • Proven experience in conducting and leading ecological surveys
  • Working knowledge of UKHab survey techniques and Statutory BNG
  • Desired experience using GIS to produce highly accurate digital outputs (QGIS)
  • Excellent report-writing skills with attention to detail
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team
  • A full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites
