Job Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Administrative Support Specialist to join our team at NHS Blood and Transplant.

About the Role

This role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our Nursing team, providing administrative support and caring for patients. You will be the first point of contact for internal and external colleagues, patients, and donors, coordinating unit administration, dealing with telephone calls, updating diaries, collating test results, and filing confidential patient/donor information.

You will also work independently and as part of a small administrative team and a larger team of specialist nurses. Your responsibilities will include recording data on spreadsheets, supporting your line manager with meeting arrangements, attending training sessions, and operating basic therapeutic apheresis equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate unit administration, including handling telephone calls, updating diaries, and collating test results
  • Work as part of a small administrative team and a larger team of specialist nurses
  • Record data on spreadsheets for various aspects of the unit
  • Support your line manager with meeting arrangements, including booking rooms, creating agendas, and minute-taking
  • Attend training and development sessions across the country
  • Operate basic therapeutic apheresis equipment after training

During busy times, you may be required to support members of the nursing team by providing basic care for patients, donors, and visitors, including welcoming people onto the unit, making refreshments, and helping those who may feel nervous.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification, such as NVQ Level 2 or BTEC level 2, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development

You should have knowledge and experience working with electronic forms of communication, such as email and internet, as well as Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Additionally, you should understand confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation issues.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is around £28,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
